17 MARCH 2023
The Swiss Finance Council (SFC) and its founding members Credit Suisse and UBS are pleased to announce that the Association of Swiss Private Banks (ABPS), the Asset Management Association Switzerland (AMAS), the Swiss Bankers Association (SBA) and the Association of Swiss Asset and Wealth Management Banks (VAV) are joining the SFC. This will strengthen further the collaboration in representing the interests of internationally active Swiss banks and asset managers with EU stakeholders.
The discussions regarding the broadening of the SFC membership base and the reinforcement of the long-standing cooperation between the SFC, ABPS, AMAS, SBA, and VAV have successfully concluded with a formal collaboration in the SFC to strengthen and deepen the representation of the Swiss banking and asset management industry in Brussels. This partnership will create synergies of work and resources in the best interest of the Swiss financial centre.
In the envisaged structure which is intended to be established by mid-2023, the SFC Board will be constituted by Renaud de Planta, Senior Managing Partner of the Pictet Group, representing ABPS, Axel Lehmann, Chairman of the Board of Credit Suisse Group AG, Marcel Rohner, Chairman of SBA, Colm Kelleher, Chairman of the Board of UBS Group AG, Lukas Gähwiler, Vice Chairman of the Board of UBS Group AG, and Philipp Rickenbacher, Chairman of VAV and CEO of Bank Julius Baer & Co. Ltd. Peter Derendinger, Chairman of the Board of Credit Suisse (Schweiz) AG, acts as SFC Chairman.
Established in 2013, the SFC engages in dialogue around policy developments in finance at a European level. It articulates and advocates the interests of internationally active Swiss financial institutions towards the EU institutions and supports an integrated Single Market that can contribute to the creation of a strong, open and globally competitive European financial sector. The SFC acts as a platform to share experience, expertise and knowledge through a permanent representative office in Brussels.
